Saint Vincent de Paul
Blessed Sacrament

St. Vincent de Paul Update

Since the pandemic, the food bank has centralized its operations and no longer supplies the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) with food for distribution. As a result, we have been unable to continue this service.
In response, we have begun assisting the residents of A Better Tent City (ABTC), located on Ardelt Avenue, just east of Homer Watson. ABTC provides shelter for 50 permanent residents and serves up to 100 people at mealtimes. Once a month, our SVDP provides pizza and pop for these individuals, who receive it with deep gratitude. Additionally, whenever possible, our members volunteer for afternoon kitchen prep duties.
SVDP continues to support those in crisis who have fallen through gaps in the social safety net. We provide Walmart gift cards for emergency food and clothing needs and assist with acquiring essential furniture—such as beds or chairs—from the SVDP Cambridge thrift store. We also collaborate with Correctional Services to supply clothing and personal hygiene items for individuals transitioning out of incarceration.
This past winter, we distributed Tim Hortons gift cards to homeless individuals, particularly those at intersections, along with thermal socks for both men and women.
In addition to these local efforts, we continue to:
  • Sponsor children to attend summer camp each year.
  • Support 10 isolated communities in Northern Canada.
  • Contribute to Christmas baskets in cooperation with other local organizations.
We meet monthly throughout the year (excluding summer) to plan and coordinate these initiatives while always seeking new opportunities to serve those in need.
Through your generosity, our parish continues to accomplish these good works.
Thank you!

Community Services

At times, individuals simply need help identifying the right service agency for their specific needs. To assist with this, we have compiled a list of links to various community services.
If you know someone in urgent need, you may find the appropriate service provider in this list. For those requiring emergency food, clothing, or basic furniture, please have them call our contact number so we can assess their situation and offer assistance.
